Privacy Policy

TypeSnap processes text expansion on your Mac. This policy describes the local data it stores and the network services used by the app and this website. TypeSnap is currently distributed directly from this website, rather than through the Mac App Store.

Snippets and Local Data

Your snippet library and settings are stored locally in ~/Library/Application Support/TypeSnap/. Snippet content is stored in JSON files, so treat this folder and your backups as potentially sensitive data. Your Mac’s access controls and FileVault settings determine who can access local files.

To detect abbreviations, TypeSnap processes a short typing buffer locally. Accessibility permission lets it inspect the focused control and insert expansions. Secure password fields are excluded by default; the app includes a setting that can override that protection. TypeSnap does not send this typing buffer to an analytics service.

Clipboard history is enabled by default. It keeps up to 50 copied-text entries locally, encrypted on your Mac. You can turn clipboard history off in Preferences. Be careful when copying sensitive material and when creating snippets from it.

Usage counts, recent and frequently used snippets, and estimated time savings are stored locally. The app does not include an analytics or third-party crash-reporting SDK.

Optional iCloud Sync

iCloud sync is off by default. If you enable it, TypeSnap sends snippet data to your private CloudKit database under your Apple account so it can sync between your Macs. This is CloudKit storage, not an iCloud Drive folder. Apple’s privacy policy applies to its services.

Exporting a library, sharing an export yourself, or enabling sync can move snippet content beyond this Mac. Review your organization’s data-handling requirements before storing sensitive information or enabling sync.

Licenses and Purchases

The free trial lasts 7 days. When it ends, expansion pauses; your library remains available for browsing, editing, and export. A paid license requires activation over the internet.

TypeSnap uses Keybee for licensing. The app sends licensing requests when activating, validating, and deactivating a license. Validation can recur when the previous check is more than 7 days old. Requests include your license key, the product identifier, and a device fingerprint derived from your Mac’s hardware identifier (IOPlatformUUID); activation also includes your computer name. These are used to activate and manage the license on the device. They do not include your snippet library or typing buffer.

The purchase link takes you to the checkout service. Checkout handles the billing information you provide. Purchases are processed by Stripe; see Stripe’s privacy policy. For questions about licensing data or its retention, contact [email protected].

Update Checks

TypeSnap uses Sparkle to check for updates from its update feed and download new releases. These requests use the network and may expose normal request information, such as your IP address, to the update host. They do not send your snippet library or typing buffer. This Website

This website uses Abner for anonymous traffic statistics. Its published policy describes collection of page URLs, referrers, browser and operating system, device type, approximate country/region/city, and campaign parameters. It uses a daily hash based on IP information to count visitors and does not use cookies. This is website analytics; it is separate from the app’s local usage statistics.

The website also requests fonts from Google Fonts and is served through web hosting infrastructure. Those services receive normal network request information, including your IP address. See Google’s privacy policy for its services. Avoid placing sensitive information in URLs or support messages.

Contact and Changes

If you contact support, the information you send is available to us to respond to your request. Do not send license keys or sensitive snippet content unless needed to resolve your issue.
